J-ZBEL
J-ZBEL
Among all the riddles-not-riddles that puzzle the international club scene, this is likely the most entertaining: what twisted minds could be hiding behind the masks of the infamous J-ZBEL trio?
For almost a decade, these almighty supervillains have kept the suspense alive from their Lyon hideout, becoming iconic for their unique, ironic and highly referential Neuneu sound. Relentlessly revisiting both old-school rave and contemporary hard dance, the trio simultaneously draws from rugged hardstyle, synth-infused 90s trance, brutal gabber, futuristic bass, trap and breaks… Each track, DJ set or live act turns into an instant classic, masterfully designed to rally any dancefloor behind their cause – much like this legendary 2019 Boiler Room in Utrecht.
Starting in 2015 with a couple of EPs and their ‘Dog’s Fart Is So Bad The Cat Throws Up’ debut-LP on the disruptive BFDM, the J-ZBEL misfits recently swapped their rustic-thug outfits for the cowboy costumes, leading to the ‘Horse Kicks Tree, Farts On Dogs Then Runs Away’ EP published early 2024 on TodoRecto Rec. and a just-as-epic new live show featuring way too many yeehaws.
